The drivers themselves were fine. It was the cabinets that had failed — cracked MDF, torn cloth, seams that had given up. Rather than throw good audio hardware into e-waste, this project rebuilt the cabinets around what the drivers actually needed.

Approach

Marble PLA gave the enclosures a stone-like face without the mass — visually the speakers read as solid material, but the actual print is light and machinable. The color story was intentional: layered tone changes across the print pass, mid-print filament swaps, and geometric detailing that catches the marble effect at different angles.

Integrated hardware

The mounting brackets, cable channels, and driver retention are all printed into the enclosure — not screwed on after. That kept the final assembly tight (fewer fasteners, fewer failure points) and gave the exterior a cleaner read. Every part that lives on the outside of these cabinets was drawn before the first print.

Why this matters

Speaker rebuilds are a good early proof for a broader idea: 3D printing is the right tool when a project needs custom internal geometry that off-the-shelf enclosures can’t accommodate. Get the geometry right and the outside can be anything.
